Calgary vs Edmonton

I've never taken the rivalry between Edmonton and Calgary too seriously! they both have their positives and negatives! Of course I'm biased towards Edmonton because that's where I'm from. I've even had friendly banter with Calgarians during my various travels. I used to always think the rivalry between the cities was light-hearted. But I will NEVER forget the time I was in Calgary and watching this Calgary charity event on tv. Someone from Edmonton phoned in and made a generous donation, and as soon as they got off the phone - the Calgarians running this charity show completely ridiculed Edmonton and laughed about the person that made the donation. I was shocked! my Aussie husband was with me, and he was completely disgusted!!! that's when we knew that most of Calgary has a very mean-spirited view about it's friendly neighbours to the North!! I get mad even to this day when I think about that incident! that's the height of ungraciousness and it's also rude, tacky, immature, low-grade, etc etc!

As a former Edmontonian, I'm not surprised that the Calgarians on the charity fundraiser showed such a complete lack of class. In addition to loving to hear the sound of their own voices no matter what garbage they were spewing, they were apparently oblivious to the purpose of the program. I'm sure there are some nice people in Calgary, they can't all be complete rednecks, but I doubt anyone from outside Calgary was impressed!

First I have to start off a bit negative and say that I really hate everything PC ! there is no common sense to it and it only suits a small core of small minded hypocrites! What gets me really angry is the push to ban Christmas from western countries! The tradition of celebrating Christmas goes back centuries. It does not advocate anything negative at all, in fact it is the opposite! Christmas is all about spreading joy, good will, love, kindness, festivity, friendship, togetherness etc etc etc. What is threatening about that? The answer is - absolutely nothing! People who cater to disposing of Christmas so as to not "offend" others are ignorant for several reasons. Firstly , it is part of our heritage and culture. We do not go to a predominantly Muslim or Jewish country and tell them to stop practising their beliefs so why is it acceptable to do it to us?
